60 Year Celebration

West Croft School is officially 60 years old this year. To celebrate this very special occasion, a sculpture has been made and installed by local craftsman and parent Mr Brendon O'Brien. This wooden sculpture is in the shape of a tree and is inspired by our school logo. Standing at around 5 feet tall, our sculpture is positioned for all to view when entering the school.

The purpose of the sculpture is to celebrate an important landmark in the history of our school and to stand as a lasting memory of the school community present at this time. Every child, from Nursery through to Year Six has their handwritten name etched on a wooden leaf and has attached this to the tree in recognition of their valued place in our school as we mark our 60th year.

Thank you to the WCCPSA who generously provided the funds for this special sculpture and the lovely celebration cake.

Celebrating this historic day, The Mayor of Bideford, Councillor Doug Bushby and Mayoress, Mrs Sheila Bushby along with the town crier, also a former pupil came to officially open the tree sculpture and to start off the celebrations.  North Devon Gazette LinK

Children welcomed past pupils and staff back to West Croft School, some of whom were the first pupils when it opened in November 1958 along with the then Assistant Headteacher Mr Husband. The school has certainly grown over the years from its humble beginnings of 41 pupils and 6 teachers to become the large part of the local Bideford community it is today. Past pupils, now part of the Bideford Fire Service also added some great excitement to the day by joining the lower school children with their fire engine and an amazing little electric car.

Everyone had a wonderful day seeing all the changes in learning such as technologies, outdoor learning spaces and school dinners. The visit highlighted many more differences to the school day over the years including not wearing a uniform in days past. Children had a delightful day of activities ending with a celebration assembly and birthday tea.

Thank you to all our special guests and Bideford Fire Service for visiting and sharing in our school's special landmark celebration and to all the wonderful children and staff.
Happy 60th Birthday West Croft School.
